The Power of Beliefs

 The Power of Beliefs

This year one thing has been made clear to me…that is, that our belief system that we live with rules our life.

I have known this for a long time, but it has become crystal clear to me and it has made such a difference.

Let me tell you a story of my past…From a long time ago I got this belief in my head that I really wasn’t “good enough”. I don’t know how or why this belief became entrenched  but nonetheless it has followed me around for many years. The funny thing is that it really doesn’t make any sense…I mean, how can I not be good enough when I am who I am? I am what I am, and there should not be any judgements attached to that. Not good enough for what?? Compared to whom?? It’s a belief that causes the real me to shrink away inside, which therefore propagates the lie. If we believe in something, it makes it a reality! So having a false sense of myself cause a negative outcome in my life, which made me look and confirm that – yes indeed, I was not good enough!! This mindset does no justice to myself, or anyone else. It causes me to be less than I can be.

On the flip side (and much brighter side!) this is simply a belief system that can be changed! Thats the magic of a belief – its not necessarily related to the truth, and can be changed at will. When I started to examine the belief I’d clung to for so long, I realised it was not only rubbish, but it served nobody. The only good thing to do with it was put it where it belongs, so I threw it out!

The trick to getting rid of a long-held belief is to replace it with something that is stronger – better. What I now believe is that I am a valuable person, who has a lot to do, and give. My personality can shine out to make a positive difference in myself, my family and in the community.

See, by simply changing what I think, I can change what I believe, and that changes my actions! Imagine if we all truly realised this as a truth. What could we achieve as individual families…nations…the international community…??

Since fully being aware of this I have implemented this teaching to my children. I want them to grow up with an innate knowing that they are in control of themselves – they can choose what they want to believe in, and they can control their future. If we don’t take charge of what we want, then things will happen to us and shape us. Not to say they have fully control over what happens to them, but what I teach them is that they have total control over what they think. They control their responses, and reactions. The same goes for every other person – and we must respect the rights of each person. It’s such an empowered way to live.

Kids love stories. I will take a situation and turn it into a story to get my message across. They hang onto every word, and are learning at the same time.

Cruz has developed an interest in crystals and loves to learn all the healing powers of each type of crystal. Last night he was reading about the bloodstone, which helps to be calm, and for pleasant dreams. The book stated he just needed to put it in a bowl of water beside his bed. Lo and behold – he had a great sleep! (Hasn’t been sleeping so well over the past few weeks). Now whether or not the crystal had anything to do with this, it was certainly influenced by his power of belief in the possibility that it does. I love the totality of belief that children have. They don’t get their intellectual mind in the way of things, like us adults tend to do.

My hope is that this will encourage you to also have a look at some of your beliefs – perhaps there is something you want to change in your life. Now is the best time to do that.

Create a change, and create a new reality. Remember you are in charge,  you have control, and  you are good enough too   icon smile The Power of Beliefs
